In January Caite and I went to Craft Napa in Napa, CA. On our last day together, we spent a Sunday drinking coffee, reading the newspaper and going to the Spa. Al before my heading back to the desert. What fun.

I loved everything about all of the digital elements of this kit. So creative, it makes my story telling easy.
I love the memories that come back when scrapping the photos from back in the day. Such joy in her face. I also like the minimal scrapping style. for me, best is a few pictures and a good story with a few scrap supplies. I like the papers best.
I, almost every month, take 11 or so images on the 11th day of that month. It chronicles what life looks like at a single moment, well OK, day in my life. I try to get creative but sometimes it is just how we spent the day.
I must be slightly older than my contemporaries in the digi scrapbooking world. I think I am my future self right now. haha So I sorted and organized advice I have been given or learned over the years. Not a bad reminder. Cheers!

The author of this challenge created a 5x5 grid of items to include on a page. We were to choose one row or column or diagonal and complete a page using those items. My items are page borders, 2 lines of journaling, a large title, three photos and cork or wooden arrow. Done and done!

I enjoyed this one a lot. I had all of these photos from 1993 when the Mississippi River came over it's banks and threatened a lot of communities but especially ours in downtown St Louis. I made a 5 x 5 grid and then eliminated some of the sots, combined others, and stretched some as well. It dramatically tells the story but limits it to a single page.

We were to use a dispersion technique. Instructions were provided for completing this in Photoshop. The technique itself was not difficult but finding the right image was complicated. I finally chose Caite kicking a soccer ball and the white matter leading from her foot to the soccer ball just coming of the photo demonstrates the technique and the power of the shot.

Take a photo where you become the subject. Your hands are there but not the rest of you.

I personally like the angle of this digital lay out and the repetitive nature of it from photo to paper. There is a lot of white space which is also restful and complimentary colors as well.
These are good for me because I have so many stories to tell. Don't laugh but I am working on 1993 and 1994, as well as 2015-21017.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Here is the first challenge and the rules:

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Start with ONE solid background paper.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Add ONE patterned paper that is smaller than your background paper (you should still be able to see the solid background).

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Add ONE frame. This can be a single opening frame, or multiple opening frame. But it must be one frame.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Place your photo(s) inside your frame.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Add a journal card somewhere on your page.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Add ONE piece of word art. You may NOT include additional journaling. Let your photo tell the story

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Add 6 elements to your page. These can be duplicated, or they can be 6 different elements. But you must have 6 (and only 6) elements visible. Since we have already added word art, you may NOT add additional word art (including word strips) as one of your 6 elements.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Add the date.

I selected the background which reads like a solid and the inversed the selection to just have the leaves. I put the leaves on a new layer so that I could put them above the photo and erased any that were in faces. I love the feeling that is captured of being in the tree.
I like layers in Photoshop and love to showcase them. For this layout, I clipped pictures to some of the squares but for others I erased the square to reveal the patterned paper below. And in other spots I added a patterned paper instead of a photo to add some color and dimension. The cutouts serve a couple of purposes here. First, they are a way to tiangulate by revealing color, which moves the eye. Second, they are a vessel for adding some theme related elements.
I flipped the first one horizontally and then made it much larger than the other photo moving them around until I got the layout I wanted. Finally, the composited image was cropped. Fun Result, don't you think.
I started by stretching the photos. I like to see the photos and in the original template they were tiny.
I wanted to use the very cute cloud paper and so made some interior mats to break up the patterning right next to the photo.
Fun for me!

I love using fresh herbs in cooking.

I also love using a font without spaces but a change in color makes it quite readable.
Yet they still allow for personalization.
I see it as providing a framework without the detail.
Here's an example. I reduced the size of the inner circle and most of the elements that were included. Added three papers but rotated each of themto provide an interesting change of direction.
And, I used a visual triangle for the three red elements.
Simple but compelling.

The first lesson is about page balance. She discusses both symmetrical and asymmetrical balance and provides some templates for us to use. Since I am a digital scrap booker, I find it quite easy to modify them to fit the number of photos I have.

Here are a few examples of my symmetrical work. For the first one, I searched online for the font that Toys R Us use. It was free so I downloaded it and put it in my PC font folder. Both of these pages are actually 12 x 12 inches. I love the white space that size provides. It also allow the photos to be larger. Enjoy!
We walked throught the ruins of what had been the Jerpoint Abbey. Fortunately we coule climb the stairs because the view of the country side were quite nice. We also stopped at St Canice's Cathedral but did not climb the watch tower. It required youth and stamina. We had the promise of lunch.

And then their was Kilkenny Castle which was built in 1195. I am always stunned when I consider the age of these beautiful buildings in all of Europe. How they were ever constructed, considering the tools they had then and that they remain in existance.
